A Personal Medical Alarm

How does it work? The signal is in the form of a radio transmission, which activates an automatic dialler in the Safe Link Personal Medical Alarm, which is connected to the client’s telephone line and mains power. The unique coding in the Safe Link Personal Medical Alarm identifies the client immediately. His or her details are then displayed on our monitor’s screen.

We immediately phone the client to find out what help is required. With the ‘state of the art’ two-way voice units they will be able to talk directly to the client, without the client having to pick up the phone.

This direct communication with the client assures the client of the help that will be dispatched and it allows the client to have the monitor stay on the line with them, to keep them secure in the knowledge that help is not too far away.

If there is no reply to this call, the monitor then calls prearranged client contacts in a predetermined order, i.e. sons, daughters, neighbours, friends, relatives etc. These people are required to live nearby for immediate assistance to be obtainable. These contacts have received instructions on how to administer assistance and are asked to proceed quickly and safely to our client’s home and render assistance if possible. If they are unable to render assistance once in the home, they can reactivate an emergency call back to the monitor and the monitor will proceed in contacting further emergency assistance i.e. ambulance or doctor.

If the contacts are not available to render immediate assistance, the monitor is then instructed to call the St Johns Ambulance. The monitor’s last responsibility is to ring the client’s telephone and check that help has arrived. If it has been requested, the monitor will also conduct a courtesy call to a nominated friend or relation and advise them of what assistance has been dispatched to our client.

This system has proven to be very successful over the years and is recognised as vastly reducing false call outs.
